Second heat wave for Southern Downs
DON'T put your fans away yet Warwick, heat wave round two is coming up.
Temperatures will climb to a top of 40 today, leading us in to a hot, sunny weekend.
Night time temperatures will also be above average, between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius, which is expected to increase over the coming week.
Bureau Of Meterology forecaster Annabelle Ford said the heat was caused by a ridge along the Queensland coast creating stable and stagnant conditions over much of Southern Queensland.
"We're not expecting it to get quite that hot as the previous weekend, but it still will be classified as a low intensity heat wave which may even become severe on Monday or Tuesday next week when it is really warm,” Ms Ford said.
Humidity is also likely to increase by the beginning of next week when the ridge extends further up the coast, bringing moisture in offshore.
Ms Ford said the cool change we had earlier in the week was brought on by a southerly air stream brining coolness up from the south.
"But no the ridge is pretty firmly along the coast now, so we should have more onshore winds making everything pretty stable.”
