Armstrong shocked by second Jumpers and Jazz tree win
SHE has already won the Jumpers and Jazz tree jumper competition before but Margaret Armstrong was still shocked when she was awarded victory on Friday.
Mrs Armstrong backed up her victory from last year, winning the open artistic section with her owl-themed tree.
"It was a surprise," Mrs Armstrong said.
"There were a lot of trees and a lot of good ideas. It's a very nice feeling to win."
Mrs Armstrong said one of her secrets was a variation in the owls.
"I made each owl on the tree different," she said.
"It's important to mix it up so it's more colourful."
Mrs Armstrong, who started on her tree six weeks ago, with the help of friend Clare Tyler, said the theme just came to her.
"I was going to try a Zen theme," she said.
"But the owls just came to me and I thought that theme would be nice.
"I just sort of go with the flow. You get your idea and then you just go with it."
Another winner was Colleen Hunt, who took out the excellence in knitting category, with Fun Day in the Park.
"I only found out yesterday morning," Ms Hunt said.
"I've been looking at my tree every day to make sure it's still intact and when I went (yesterday) mine had a winner's sign on it.
"It was quite a surprise and quite exciting."
It was Ms Hunt's first attempt at a tree jumper.
"I saw all the trees last year and I thought, 'I wonder if everyday people do this?'" she said.
