See which Southern Downs towns use the most water
WATER usage is starting to take a dive around the Southern Downs in the wake of water restrictions but mayor Tracy Dobie says properties around the region are still letting more water flow from the tap than they should.
In June, Warwick used 16ML less water than in May, while Stanthorpe recorded a drop of 5.88ML.
Killarney properties have also reduced water usage by 1.23ML and Wallangarra has decreased consumption by 0.42ML.
Cr Dobie this week said drought caused stress among landholders but the council was developing a water efficiency plan.
The plan is set to spell out drought-related issues and options for sourcing water in the future.
"We have brought in medium level water restrictions and we will watch the usage,” Cr Dobie said.
"Usage is still very high, well above what it should be for winter.”
The target water consumption levels for every town on the Southern Downs under medium level water restrictions is now 200 litres a person each day.
But in June, Warwick residences used an average of about 250 litres a person each day.
Killarney far exceeded the target level, with a recording of about 325 litres, while Allora had the lowest with a recording of about 80 litres.
The residential water consumption levels for each person in towns for June was:
Cr Dobie urged residences to adhere to water restrictions and be mindful of water usage.
"Stick to watering the gardens and using water in keeping with management limits currently imposed,” she said.
Medium level water restrictions allow properties to only water outdoors on certain days at certain times, depending on the residential number of the property.
Water-saving devices are also available free through the council, including shower and sprinkler heads as well as shower timers.
Cr Dobie said shower and sprinkler heads could be swapped for water-saving alternative at the council offices.
