POLICE have urged revellers to use common sense to ensure New Year's Eve celebrations remain safe and enjoyable.

Warwick Police Senior Sergeant Stewart Day said people needed to keep their wits about them.

"We are urging everyone to enjoy themselves for New Year and we want them to have a good time but just remember that we will take action if anyone is engaging in anti-social behaviour," Snr Sgt Day said.

He said it was not uncommon to see a number of notices given out on such an occasion.

"We see a lot of social order offences, so public nuisance, drinking in public places etcetera," he said.

"Patrols will be in place over the celebration - on the roads, at the dam and at licensed premises.

"We want people to enjoy themselves but we don't want them to have to appear in court in the New Year," he said.

Snr Sgt Day said a big reminder to all revellers was that fireworks were unlawful in Queensland unless you have a licence.

Brisbane New Year's Eve operations co-ordinator Chief Superintendent Brent Carter put out a state-wide message to all revellers.

"Our message is not to prevent people from having fun - have a good time, act responsibly, drink responsibly whilst you're out and about and don't make a fool of yourself and spoil it for yourself and others," Chief Supt Carter said.

He recommended people make plans to get home and remember to look out for their friends.

Allora Showgrounds will have the district's only fireworks show during its community New Year celebrations. Gates will open at 5pm and fireworks will begin at 8pm.

If a night of bull riding and a ute muster is more your style, trot on down to the Yangan Hotel-Motel and Yangan sports ground from 3pm for a night of thrills and excitement.

If you're still looking for a place to ring in the new year, the Warwick RSL will host a 1960s Revolution party with live music and buffet dinner.

Rupert's Bar and Grill will have live music, an a la carte menu and fireworks on the big screen.

The Horse and Jockey will host a pyjama party, so don your slippers and head down for a buffet dinner and massive countdown.

Alternatively, throw on your board shorts and some zinc and head to an all-Australian beach party from 6pm at the Warwick Golf Club and Frankies on the Green.
