Senior citizens find tranquillity amidst madness
MAJOR renovations and refurbishments are happening at the Warwick Senior Citizens Club, but some of the members aren't even batting an eyelid.
As workers busied themselves painting the entire building's exterior, the senior citizens still managed to catch and moment of peace and tranquillity in their tai chi and yoga classes.
Warwick Senior Citizens Club president Joe Owens spent his whole life in the building industry and said the facility was in need of a face lift.
"It was eight years since it was last painted and the paint work and some of the timber is deteriorating,” he said.
It's a hell of a lot of work because it requires priming, repairs and then a final finish coast going on.”
The refurbishments, which were partly funded by the Southern Downs Regional Council, will take ten days to complete.
They come as part of a suite of upgrades to the facility, which received a new commercial kitchen last year.
New flooring will be installed in early April, making the building safer and more pleasant for the club's 140 members.
Mr Owens said while some of the citizens were oblivious to the refurbishments, it was important for the upkeep of the building.
"It is my job to make sure that the place stays in good repair and that's what I do.”
