SES members race against floodwater
THREE volunteers from the Warwick unit of the State Emergency Service and one from Stanthorpe were on the road yesterday heading to St George to lend a hand.
The four travelled west with their rescue boat and were aiming to make it to St George before the bridge went under from floodwater heading south from the Maranoa area.
They were on target to arrive at 4.30pm and are likely to stay in the town for the best part of a week.
"We might be back Friday with a bit of luck," SES member Kerin Politch said.
"We will offer relief to the locals and help with sandbagging."
Kerin Politch was one of a large group of SES volunteers from the Southern Downs who headed north to Innisfail and Mission Beach following Cyclone Yasi last year.
"I like helping people out," Mr Politch said.
"The two groups went north at different times last year after the cyclone."
