Severely damaged road addressed
TOP Swanfels Road east of Yangan will undergo major works starting on Monday as the Southern Downs Regional Council addresses severe damage suffered to the road over the last few months.
The Daily News drew attention to the state of the road in a story last week, with Engineering Services Director Peter See saying due to the severity of the damage and safety concerns council would remove sections of the bitumen and return the road back to a gravel surface.
“It will stay a gravel surface until construction crews are available to start reinstating the bitumen road in the next two to three months,” Mr See explained.
“Property access may be disrupted for a short period while works are in progress but will remain open for the duration of the works.
“Council will notify property owners of any changes that may occur during the works.”
During the road works speed limits will be reduced and motorists are advised to obey all altered speed limits and drive to road conditions.
Sections that will have the bitumen removed include a 100m section 600m from the intersection of Top Swanfels Road and the Yangan-Killarney Road, a 400m section 1.2km from the intersection of Top Swanfels Road and the Yangan-Killarney Road and a 400m section 3.7km from the intersection of Top Swanfels Road and the Yangan-Killarney Road.
The road works schedule is subject to weather conditions.
