Shears clicking for a good cause at the Stocky
DARRIAN Schekoske admits he is a little bit attached to the big, bushy beard he has been cultivating for the past twelve months.
But he's said he will bid the beard goodbye on March 17, when he takes a razor to his facial hair in to support people with leukaemia.
Mr Schekoske and a group of regular patrons of Warwick's Stockyard Hotel will shave their hair to raise money for the World's Greatest Shave.
He's been growing his beard for 12 months, which is more than enough time to get a bit attached.
"It won't feel quite right without it, but I thought it was for a good cause so why not," Mr Schekoske said.
Becoming a clean-shaven bloke might be a change for Mr Schekoske, but at least he will have some moral support.
Six-year-old daughter Kadisha will be dyeing her hair a rainbow of pink, purple and blue on the day.
When it's all over, the pair aren't sure they will even recognise one another!
Mr Schekoske is aiming to raise $700 before the big shave and has been putting out flyers around the community.
He's also hoping to rope a few more friends into the shave after a couple of drinks on the day.
"It's sick people out there that need a hand, it's just nice to do something for them," Mr Schekoske said.
Stockyard Hotel co-owner Ann Smith said she hoped the funds raised by the Stocky Shavers team would go towards finding a cure, not just for leukaemia but all types of cancer.
The goal has a personal touch, as Mrs Smith has supported a close friend with leukaemia.
"I just really hope they will find a cure one day," she said.
