Shield ends in draw in front of large Killarney crowd
RUGBY LEAGUE: Centre Bradley Green was players' player as Killarney drew 24-all with Inglewood in the Bob Garred Memorial Shield game on Saturday at Charlie Andrews Oval.
The game was played in front of the biggest crowd at a Killarney Cutters home game for two years.
The shield was first contested in 2009 and has predominately been won by Inglewood Roosters.
Inglewood led for most of the game but the home side levelled with a try to Jesse Wallace and conversion by Chris McGregor.
Tenterfield has taken the Border competition lead after a 36-24 win against Stanthorpe.
After the draw, Inglewood and Killarney are equal second.
Killarney co-coach Ray Wagner said he was happy with his team's performance across the park.
"They all dug in and played a good game of footy,” he said.
Inglewood captain-coach Brent Osborne said it was hard to select his best.
"They all played well, it was just a tight game. Tim West and Jake Charles have played well all season,” he said.
Hooker Willie Osborne, 19, has performed well and has played the full 80 minutes in the past three games without a break on the bench.
Prop Shane Hooper and back rower Jamie Meddings came off the bench for their first Roosters games of the season.
"Killarney hooker Jamie Watts played well and I was impressed with their forwards,” Osborne said.
