Shooter hits the targets in two years in the sport
AFTER only two years in the sport, Ian McNally has won his first A-grade 50-target double barrel event and wants to be in the top level by the end of the year.
"My wife Jo and I both joined the Warwick Clay Target Club two years ago as we thought it was a good sport to start together and something we could do for a long time," he said.
"The competition in Warwick is as good as you are going to get."
He has graduated from C to B and now A grade.
"I have to consistently shoot 97 per cent to get into AA," he said.
"Everyone's goal is to reach AA, the highest level in the sport in Australia."
Tarawera club member Jessica Harris has a long-term ambition to shoot for Australia and was the AA winner at the weekend.
She used the shoot as one of her final practice days before competition in the nationals in Wagga Wagga later this month.
The 24-year-old lives at Goondiwindi and is the current state champion.
Goondiwindi shooter Brandon Hohn won B and Mervyn Johnson (Mt Lindesay) C grade.
