Shoppers treated to musical show
JENNY May played country music on the bagpipes as the Warwick District Country Music Club performed for Saturday morning shoppers in front of the Warwick Town Hall.
Club president Ron Farrell said in two hours, 50 people came to the town hall wanting to vote in the federal election.
“National Seniors have booked the town hall first so we told everyone to go to WIRAC for voting,” Mr Farrell said.
Six members entertained the crowd, including Ms May, who is in her third year playing country music tunes with the bagpipes.
“I have been playing the pipes for 30 years but like country tunes,” Ms May said.
“I enjoy the company and involvement with the country music club.”
Club member John Eastwell uses his accordion to play the same key as the piper.
“Jenny and I play by ear, no music is set out for us,” Mr Eastwell said.
He is serious about playing the accordion as it was imported from Germany so as to be compatible with the bagpipes.
“It cost me $3000,” he said.
“Jenny and I play the tunes and the rest of the club members do the backing.”
At 10am Saturday, they were joined by Mr Farrell, Alan Taylor, Ev Eastwell and Barry Heffernan for the National Seniors Week entertainment which continued at the Warwick Town Hall yesterday.
