Shoppers queue up for Kmart to fill gap
WARWICK residents would like to see Kmart replace the now-closed Crazy Clarks.
The discount store had its doors closed yesterday after its last day of trading on Monday, and there has yet to be confirmation of who will acquire the lease of the building.
The Daily News ran a Facebook poll yesterday asking Rose City residents what their preference was.
Kmart was the overwhelming favourite, followed by Best and Less, while other suggestions included City Beach and Jay Jay's.
Kmart would provide competition to Big W and Target Country, located in close proximity to the Grafton St location of Crazy Clarks.
While retailers such as clothing stores were the overwhelming favourites, Warwick resident Mike Arazie had a different view.
"Maybe a family-run restaurant would be a good idea," Mr Arazie said.
"Warwick has a lot of fast food outlets but not many authentic restaurants.
"It would be nice to have something a bit different and with a bit of variety; I think a restaurant selling authentic overseas food would be a great addition to the town.
"If you look around, most of the restaurants in Warwick are cafeteria-style food whereas if you look at Stanthorpe, they have places such as Anna's (Italian)."
The discount store announced early last month it would close its doors, along with fellow discount store Sam's Warehouse.
It is understood the lease for the space expires tomorrow. It is unknown what will replace Crazy Clarks, although as reported yesterday, the Daily News understands other retailers have already expressed interest in acquiring the lease.
