THE topic of seven-day trading is always a controversial one in the Rose City it seems.

In the almost eight years of living here, I've noticed it's come up at least once a year in these pages, and even talking to people down the street.

The thing a few people commented on downtown on Saturday, after the Warwick Rodeo street parade wrapped up, was that there were hardly any shops open to keep visitors in the CBD.

I realise there are issues like paying extra staff wages, but it seemed strange that more shops weren't open for people to hang around for a coffee or a bit of a shop once the markets started packing up and heading home.

With the Rose City Shoppingworld expansion on the cards, maybe it's time for the seven-day trading debate to fire up properly once again.
