WARWICK'S Leslie Park turned into the biggest display of VW cars of all ages and models this weekend as part of the VW Nationals held at the Warwick Dragway.

Bright colours, personalised number plates and hours of loving labour were on display for a weekend of VW racing.

Organiser Craig Hughes, from VW Magazine, said the Warwick parade in the park was the biggest he had seen in Australia.

"I wasn't expecting so many people to take part in the street parade and display here at Leslie Park," Craig Hughes said. "The display is all part of the fun for those of us who come to Warwick to be part of the VW Nationals.

"It's a fantastic display here and the weather couldn't be better."

Warwick locals were treated to a huge display of VW cars of both the drag racing and daily-drive varieties.

Volkswagen enthusiasts came from Western Australia, Sydney and Brisbane to take part in the event they said was the best collection of VWs in Australia.

Donna Hanson is one of the first female drivers to take part in the event and the VW fever has spread to her sons, Nik and Zak.

"I think this is the fifth year we've taken part in the event here in Warwick," Nik said.

"I'll be taking the Kombi van out on the track later today and letting my brother take the Beetle out."

Brother Zak was looking forward to his chance to get the Beetle on the Warwick Dragway track.

"It's a bit nerve-racking because it's Mum's car but it's a lot of fun to get out there in."

The Warwick Thistle Pipe Band was on hand to provide the musical entertainment on a beautiful sunny day at Leslie Park.
