SHOW US THE MONEY: Funding for societies around the Downs
SHOWGROUNDS around the Southern Downs will be riding the high of a $400,00 budget boost to the State Government's Show Societies Grants Program.
The Warwick Show and Rodeo Society will receive $17,160 of a total for operating costs and maintenance or construction of showground assets.
Just ahead of the 2018 Warwick Rodeo, the announcement was great news for society members.
Show chairman John Maher said the funding could contribute to important yard renovations that would improve the facility for users and patrons.
"I am a little bit dumbfounded but thankful we have gained a bit more money,” Mr Maher said.
Rodeo chairman Peel Tribe said infrastructure and assets at the Warwick showgrounds needed upgrading.
In particular, water and electricity infrastructure could be improved to cater for substantial on-site electricity demand during the annual rodeo and show.
"Every bit helps to offset the running cost of the place because we are a privately owned,” Mr Tribe said.
Alongside water and electricity upgrades, Mr Tribe said it would be good to look at an air-conditioning solution for the Douglas Feez Pavilion in the future.
