Sidecars join massive weekend of racing at Morgan Park
MOTOR SPORTS: It takes a brave racer to hang off the back of a speeding vehicle, but that's exactly what competitors in the Australian Sidecar Championships will be doing at Morgan Park this weekend.
The sidecar championship will be just one of the features during the weekend-long Pirelli Masters of Morgan Park event.
Hosted by the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland, the event also features the Queensland Historic Road Race Championships and round two of the BEARS (British, European and American Race Supporters).
Club manager Roisin Murphy said sidecars contained a passenger or "swinger” who hung off the back of the car to help turn corners.
"It's very entertaining to watch that one, there's a lot of competition in that one,” he said.
But the whole weekend promises to be thrilling.
"I think you can see a lot of skill in the riders and the speeds they can hit the corners at and not fall off,” Murphy said.
Gates open at 7am, with racing starting at noon on Saturday and continuing all day Sunday.
Entry is free for spectators.
