Signs appear on horror stretch of Mt Lindesay Rd

THE gremlins - or rather those campaigning to fix the road many believe is the worst in Australia's - have been busy on the Mt Lindesay Rd between Legume and Woodenbong.

A larger number of signs, some cheeky and others right to the point, have appeared along the horror stretch linking the Darling Downs and the NSW Northern Rivers, ahead of a visit today and tomorrow by Barnaby Joyce.

The former Senator for Queensland and Nationals leadership hopeful is now the party's candidate for federal lower seat of New England which takes in part of the region serviced by the Mt Lindesay Rd.

With a federal election in the offing, Mr Joyce will tonight hold a community forum at the Urbenville Bowls Club, and tomorrow morning will go for a drive along the road with local mail contractor Ann Whitfield, who took Daily News editor Jeremy Sollars on a similar bone-shaking journey last month.

Once he has recovered from car sickness and had his back cracked, Mr Joyce will attend another community forum at Liston.

Locals are urged to head along to the forums to have their say on the Mt Lindesay Rd and other local issues of concern ahead of the federal election, the date of which is yet to be announced.

Details of the visit to the region by Barnaby Joyce:

  • Community forum, Urbenville Bowls Club, 6pm tonight
  • Visit to Legume for drive along the Mt Lindesay Rd, 10am tomorrow
  • For information call Barnaby's campaign office on 02 6766 5656
