Fire crews monitor silo fire
A LARGE silo fire is still burning but has been bought under control, after a load of nitrogen was used to suffocate it.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Crews from Goondiwindi, Inglewood and Toowoomba spent today monitoring the fire west of Goondiwindi, which started 4pm yesterday.
A nitrogen truck was called in at 11.30pm yesterday to help contain the fire at a Grain Corp company on Silo St, North Talwood, and nitrogen began to be pumped at 1.30am to smother the oxygen.
The fire was deemed under control by this afternoon and crews will return tomorrow to monitor it.
An 800m exclusion zone was put in place while the fire was bought under control but Fire and Rescue crews said there was no more danger or threat to people or property.
Talwood police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
