Simon Black set for first game of the season for Lions

CHAMPION Brisbane Lions midfielder Simon Black is set to play his first game of the season against West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday.

The 34-year-old had off-season knee surgery, but has played the last three matches for the club's reserves.

Coach Michael Voss said his former teammate had only to pull up well from yesterday's training session to be named in the senior team.

"All things being equal, you'd expect him to play," Voss said.

"We have to appreciate he hasn't completed a lot of the pre-season, so he's taken a lot of time to get going."

Eagles coach John Worsfold said star ruckman Nic Naitanui would start against the Lions after coming on as a substitute in his first game of the year against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

Worsfold said he expected Naitanui to play about 90 minutes this week, compared to his 2012 average of 100 minutes per game.

West Coast defenders Beau Waters (adductor) and Sam Butler (calf) have already been ruled out, with Adam Selwood and Matt Rosa expected to come under strong consideration after playing well in the WAFL last weekend.
