Simon Crean shows off his mad rap skills

LESS than six months after federal Trade Minister Craig Emerson's rendition of the Skyhooks classic Horror Movie, Regional Development Minister Simon Crean has done his own version of Ice, Ice Baby.

Mr Crean, who also holds the Regional Development portfolio, swapped his plush ministerial office in Canberra for a western Sydney hip-hop studio on Tuesday.

Mr Crean's rap references his last big gig on the microphone - singing It's Time on television during the Gough Whitlam's federal campaign 40 years ago.

"I wasn't inundated with subsequent opportunities - but I'm hoping my rap line will make the final cut," he said.

Spitting fire over the microphone, Mr Crean raps: "Arts Minister, on the road, coming at ya, from ICE."

The rap was part of Mr Crean's visit on Tuesday to the Switch Digital Arts Centre in Parramatta, which provides young people in western Sydney with a creative outlet.
