Wises Rd reopens after hole repaired

Update 5.40pm

WISES Rd is now open to traffic after a cavity opened in the west-bound lane near the intersection with Sugar Rd mid-afternoon.

The hole was likely to have been caused by a leak in the area that was repaired in November, Unitywater executive manager of infrastructure services, Glen Babington, said.

Unitywater will investigate further.

"Our primary focus in this situation is public safety," Mr Babington said

"We had crews close by so were able to responded immediately and commence repairs to restore the road as quickly as possible."

Earlier:

PART of Wises Rd, Maroochydore has been closed after a sink hole opened in the west-bound lane near the intersection of Sugar Rd.

Maroochydore Police officer in charge Nathan Richards said west-bound lanes would remain closed for some time.

"Traffic coming down the hill is being diverted onto Sugar Rd," he said.

"Please find an alternative route home because it will be blocked for some time."

Workers are on the scene assessing the damage but it is unknown when the road will be reopened.

East-bound traffic has not been affected.
