Sisters come together to celebrate Melbourne Cup
MELBOURNE Cup Day for most might be a reason to take a day off work, but four Queensland sisters saw it as the perfect excuse for a catch up.
Trish Lethbridge, Allanna Twiddle, Susie Davidson and Jane Isted - nee Gibson - grew up in Jericho in Central Queensland.
Mrs Davidson now lives in Warwick and her three sisters were by her side yesterday to celebrate Melbourne Cup at Hawker Rd Function Centre.
"They've all come to join me today though we do get together quite a lot," she said.
With two older brothers and another sister, the sisters said they weren't competitive growing up, agreed they would take any reason to see eachother.
"Susie's daughter got married in Toowoomba about a month ago but we get together when we can," Mrs Twiddle said.
"At funerals, weddings and Melbourne Cup Day!"
Mrs Lethbridge and Mrs Twiddle both live in Toowoomba while Mrs Isted lives in Tara. They all said although they had moved on from their days on the family's Jericho property, which their brothers had since taken over, they still loved living in the country.
"There's just lots of friendly, genuine people and no traffic," Mrs Twiddle said.
"It's a great place to raise children because everyone still has great country values and manners."
