Sisters strive to play on
SISTERS Lily and Daisy Wacker can’t get enough of their favourite sport.
When the pair aren’t on the netball court playing, they’re at home practising their goal shooting and passing skills. This week, they have been practising feverishly for the preliminary finals this weekend.
Warwick Netball secretary Linda Bunch said this year had been a “fantastic season” for the club.
“This has been probably one of our highest numbers of members for a long time,” she said.
“We’ve got about 180 junior players, which is a great figure for a small country community, and with so many sports for the kids to choose from.”
The netball girls, aged from five to 14, play in friendly competitions each weekend.
Hannah Duggan has been playing the sport for about two years, and said she takes after her role model Laura Geitz. “(Netball) is good fun,” she said.
“It is definitely my favourite sport. I could see myself playing for a few more years.”
Mrs Bunch said it was the great support of the parents and volunteers that helped the netball season to run so smoothly.
“We’re 100% run on volunteers.
“It’s been a great year and that’s thanks to the many volunteers and parents,” she said.
Anyone interested in playing netball is welcome to join the club. No experience is necessary, but prospective players are urged to start younger to attain the core skills as early as possible.
