Six boys make Downs sides

SIX Southern Downs players have made Darling Downs primary schoolboys rugby league teams.

St Mary’s, Warwick, pair, hooker Harry Sullivan and fullback/three quarter Mason Blades, are in the 12 years regional team.

Lock Angus Croft (Yangan) and second rower Isaac Chaffey (Warwick West State School) will play in the forwards for the Darling Downs 12 years side to play in the state championships at Redcliffe on June 24-30.

St Joseph’s, Stanthorpe, teacher Mick Grew is Darling Downs trainer for the 12 years team. Stan McDonald (Goondiwindi) is coach and Bob Harkins (St Thomas More’s, Toowoomba) the manager.

Mitchell Watson (St Mary’s) and Nick Van Der Poel (St Patrick’s, Allora), who both play in the three quarters, have made the 11 years side.

St Mary’s teacher Sam Hannant is 11 years team trainer. Coach is Dwane Wann (Our Lady of Lourdes) and manager Tammy Banks (St Thomas More’s).

The 11 years titles will be in Brisbane in the mid-year school holidays.

Teams will train on Sundays and some Wednesdays in Toowoomba or Warwick in the lead-up to the carnivals.
