Sizzling day for Summer Festival
THE weekend's Summer Festival Community Day was a scorcher but that didn't stop plenty of youngsters heading out for a day of music, skating and mateship.
Southern Downs Regional Council's community youth worker Hailey Cosh said she was pleased with the support from the community, despite the hot day.
"The weather probably did deter some people from coming down but it didn't deter us from having a great day," she said.
Brisbane skating company Drawing Boards took to the bowl, showing off their skills on the board and sharing their tips with eager beginners.
"There was a really big crowd at the skate park and the professional skaters handed out boards and prizes, which was great," Miss Cosh said.
Musicians and bands Rhiannon Davies, Konner Hawthorne, Valley Fire, Port Paradise, and Gold Coast band Double Lined Minority rocked throughout the afternoon.
After festival-goers endured the heat all day, the event was shut down about half an hour early to avoid the storm that hit on Saturday afternoon.
The Summer Festival Community Day was a first and was an initiative of SDRC, headspace and SDIEA.
