Sizzling venture for business duo

HE may be passing on the fry basket on but Roddie's Fish and Chips owner Rodney Kilner will still keep his grandma's secret batter recipe in the family.

In a baptism by fire Mr Kilner's daughter's partner Peter Price has undergone rigorous training in preparation for his take over of the shop in May.

After he helped prepare more than 450 orders on Good Friday alone Mr Price feels he is ready for the challenge.

"We will be keeping it the same," Mr Kilner's daughter Orysia (Missy) Kilner said.

Peter and Missy plan to split the duties between their businesses R&K's Fork and Take Away and Roddie's.

"I took over R& K's two years ago so it's kind of my baby, while Peter will mainly be here," Ms Kilner said.

The couple also hopes to explore a gluten-free batter option and the possibility of gourmet coffee.

Mr Price, previously a concreter, said he just "wanted to try something new".

While the next generation is working Mr Kilner is heading on a fishing trip before he decides on his next venture.

"I may send Peter a few photos of my trip but I don't want to rub salt into the wound," he laughed.

"Besides I'll have to come back here for a feed if I don't catch anything".
