Skipper outstanding in top Aussie rules win

AUSSIE RULES: Absolutely fantastic were the two words used by coach Peter Millard to describe the Warwick Redbacks 86-point win against Lockyer Valley in the club's first game of the season in division 2.

"Captain Andrew Bardsley was outstanding and won the Anzac Medal for best and fairest in the match,” Peter said.

Kris Millard led the scoring with nine goals.

The coach said new players Kai Best, Blake Blanche, Ben Lubben, Jamie Saunders and the Weidman brothers, Danyle and Jason, were all outstanding.

"Jamie Saunders took a great mark with his first touch and was great in defence. He is a talent and is certainly good enough for division 1 Aussie rules,” Peter said.

The combined Warwick and Lockyer Valley team showed a lot of improvement in women's Aussie rules despite going down to Dalby. The combined junior teams also played Dalby.

The division 2 game was preceded by an Anzac ceremony led by returned serviceman Barry Kelly. Later in the day, he presented the Anzac Medal to Bardsley.

Warwick plays Dalby at 1.30pm in division 2 in the only game at Warwick Credit Union Oval on Saturday.

More players for men and women's grades welcome to training at 5.30pm each Tuesday and Thursday.
