Slippery threat closes one lane

A THICK sludgy band of diesel fuel leaked from an unknown source caused the closure of one north-bound lane of the Cunningham Highway from the Freestone Road turn-off to the Caltex Truck and Travel early yesterday morning.

A Warwick Police spokesman said police were alerted to the incident by concerned motorists.

“We received calls about 8am (yesterday morning) letting us know about the slippery conditions,” he said.

“There were no accidents.”

It took the Southern Downs Regional Council three hours to clean up the mess.

According to Warwick Police, at its thickest the sludge measured one metre wide and coated the outside lane on the fog line of the highway near the Ogilvie Road turn-off.

The trail of leaked diesel was not evident on the Caltex Truck and Travel perimeter, however Warwick Police were trawling for trucks with a holey fuel tank.
