Smoking out workers
WHILE it used to be considered cool to have a cigarette dangling from your mouth, the times are a changing.
So much so, even employers have started advertising vacant job positions that read, smokers need not apply.
Warwick business owner Emma Eastwell said smoker or not, it should not warp an employer's decision to hire or fire.
"We work so closely with clients so I just make sure the girls put perfume on after (they have a cigarette)," Ms Eastwell said.
"It's discrimination if they don't hire them just because they smoke."
Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-discrimination Commission Neroli Holmes said denying someone a position because they were a smoker was "discriminatory, but not unlawful".
