Snakes out and about on warm Southern Downs
THE combination of the floods earlier this year and the above average temperatures has snake catcher Lyn Gynther bracing for a very busy season.
"The floods moved a lot of the animals around and it has been heating up so I expect it will be a busy season," Ms Gynther said.
"I have already made a trip to Warwick about a month ago to remove a brown snake from a house and we are having a bit of a problem in Killarney at the moment."
Ms Gynther said now was the time to ensure all the rubbish and debris was picked up from around the house.
"Make sure you wear gloves and pick items up away from you," she said.
"If you are working in the garden wear a good pair of boots, thick socks, long pants and a long sleeved shirt."
Ensuring the lawn around the house is mowed will also limit snakes hiding places.
If you do happen to discover a snake in your backyard Ms Gynther said it was important not to panic.
"Do not try to kill the snake," she said.
"If it feels threatened it will try and defend itself."
If you need a snake removed phone Ms Gynther on 4664 8476.
If you or someone else is bitten by a snake phone 000 immediately.
