SNAKES ALIVE: Pythons spotted on walking track near Warwick
SNAKES are starting to slither out of hibernation around the region and a walker has captured an incredible picture of the huge reptiles that are starting to make their way out of our bushland.
Teleesha Maree snapped a picture of two huge diamond pythons fighting on the Queen Mary Falls walking track this week.
Their bodies were intertwined and heads reared, as they battled it out in the middle of the track.
Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park and Cafe owner Louise Reed estimated the snakes were about 2m long.
While snakes had been spotted in the area before, she said was uncommon to see two fighting.
Mrs Reed said the weather conditions had caused more snakes to show their faces recently as they were searching for food.
"It's gone from quite cold to quite warm very quickly, so there's definitely been a lot of sightings in the last three weeks,” she said.
Mrs Reed said diamond pythons were not dangerous but advised visitors to leave snakes alone if they were out and about, urging them not to try and touch the reptiles.
"You do get people trying to touch them or throwing sticks at them which is a bit of a shame,” she said.
"As long as we leave them alone to do their own thing we should be right.”
Snakes are expected to remain active over the warmer summer months before returning to hibernation next winter.
