Sneak preview of Monaro nationals

THIS weekend the Monaro Club of Queensland will give the Rose City a teaser ahead of their huge Monaros on the Southern Downs event later this year.

In September more than 350 cars and 1000 people are expected to flood Warwick for the 7th Monaro Nationals and the first to be held in Queensland.

Monaro Club of Queensland secretary Shane Horswill said on Sunday several members would come to Leslie Park for the first 2010 Club Pointscore Car Display Event.

Mr Horswill said the purpose of the event was essentially to display the Monaros as a way of advertising for the upcoming nationals.

There will be about 40 cars in Leslie Park from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Sunday and Mr Horswill said members would be on-hand to answer any questions from the public.

Best of all, the event is free.

There will be models ranging from as far back as the first – the 1968 HG Monaro – right through to the 2005 VZ Monaro.

Mr Horswill said there would also be a static car display at the corner of Guy and Albert Streets.

He said Sunday would be the first of three pointscore events this year, with scoring results to count towards the yearly championship.
