Snow determined! Dad's epic quest for winter wonderland

On Monday 13th July at 5.00am one dad had a dream to make snow happen for his children. The simple morning trip turned into a whole long day saga!!!

Tenterfield has snow!!! says all the reports on sunrise, the council and Tourist information even said Mt Mckenzies the place to.

Ao off we set from Killarney, getting more excited as we drew closer to Tenterfield but by the time we managed the trip there and it took us a long time because of road conditions and we had our special grandparents behind us too.

A local said the road was that bad that it was sludge and impassable by car and her photos although lovely it just looked like used up black snow in dribs and drabs and not the winter wonderland he had imagined for his children.

And there was talk of the road closing too.

So, onwards to the Glen who we were told had plenty.

Real white snow balls!!!
Real white snow balls!!!

But by the time we got there the rain had melted it all but for the odd small chunk and tiny drifts under fences and solar panels and hardened sqiushy old snow men that were lovingly made by local children.

On our way you could see sweet parents had pulled over everywhere to not disappoint their children and at least give them something, playing in the left over bits of decaying snow men.

So sad for them but at least it was real snow.

Nanny pulled over to snap a photo of her grandson with his poppy an let him throw a snow ball off the snow man, so at least he had something to remember.

Good on those parents all stopping.

But that was not enough for this dad...he was determined. One last push.

It was 2.00 and getting colder and windier but on we went to Ben Lomond and as we climbed up and up, you could see bits here and there, a flash of white on a log, then a whole tree was speckled in snow and then bam!!! whole fields, a farm, a whole side of a mountain....and not just bits, whole drifts.

So we pulled off to Ben Lomond, and up the road it opened up into massive drifts of snow, roof tops covered, the school children playing in the snow, throwing snow balls at each other, a whole park just covered, cars under snow, fences backed up with long white drifts, just a perfect winter wonderland, just what this dad had dreamed of that morning for his children.

A day we will never ever forget, and just another hour or so away people had settled for melting browny white chunks because they may not have known what was an hour away, or had no more time or fuel. I love our children's dad.

He is very special. One dad in a million. On the video we shot you can hear chime saying "we've done it...the winter wonderland". That says it all. I love you.
