Soggy shoes and wind don’t stop park runners
RUNNING: Despite the wet conditions, wind and the 100% chance of getting soggy shoes and socks, 40 people turned out for the Easter park run.
The 5km run, which is held every week at Queen's Park, got under way at 7am.
One dog, a couple of prams and a handful of under-11s, with accompanying adults, joined a group of runners that included visitors from Hervey Bay and Rocks Riverside, and five first timers.
Despite the tough conditions seven runners achieved personal-best times.
Darcy Meek, who runs in the 15-17-year category, was first across the line in 20.09 minutes, just above his PB of 19.46 minutes.
Jodie Norris was the first female across the line in 24.17 minutes. The rain didn't stop the keen athletes having a bit of Easter fun, even after the race with an egg and spoon, face painting, chocolate eggs and a "guess how many eggs are in the jar" competition.
The activities were all organised by volunteers from park run and Pentath-run.
Park run is free to take part in and is held at 7am at Queen's Park every Saturday.
If you would like to get involved all you have to do is register at http://www.parkrun.com.au.
You will then need to print out your barcode and bring it to the run every week. It is a great way to meet new people, find new training partners and get fit and healthy.
Prams and dogs are welcome.
