Solemn pledge to remember
THE innocent faces of local children will make a poignant contrast with the brave, worn faces of Warwick's returned servicemen when they gather for services this Remembrance Day.
A number of pupils at Freestone State School have been learning Rupert McCall's Pledge of Remembrance, and will recite the poem at the 11am service at Leslie Park tomorrow.
They will be joined by representatives from other schools across Warwick, as the community gathers to remember those who have fought and died for our country.
One Field Squadron Royal Australian Engineers representative Johnno Felton - who is a Vietnam veteran - said the sign of support from back home would go a long way to boosting morale for troops currently serving overseas.
"They're professionals but if they know the public is behind them and they're not forgotten, it means a lot to them," he said.
"My heart goes out to the soldiers' friends and families. A lot of them serving are only 19 years old and they're in a war zone, even though it's being played down by politics."
Mr Felton said the best way to show support for our troops overseas was to purchase a Remembrance Day item and wear it proudly.
Items such as badges, car bumper stickers and key rings are being sold at Westpac Bank and at Rose City Shoppingworld.
"We all should be very, very proud of them," he said.
"Most people here have some contact to the Anzacs. Show your support, or at 11am say a little prayer to thank them and other troops for what they did."
