For some reason, Hey Hey is coming back online
IT seemed to live forever, 28 years in all, before Hey Hey It's Saturday left television in 1999.
Then it came back in 2010 not with a bang, but with a grunt, was struck by a storm of controversy after a bunch of black-face wearing performers hit the stage, then disappeared again.
The humour and chemistry that had made the show so watchable in its heyday no longer appealed to a new generation.
Its axing however, must not have been enough for the old crew.
Daryl Somers is bringing Hey Hey back in the form of an online show featuring Dickie Nee, Livinia Nixon, Plucka Duck and of course, Red Symons.
He told A Current Affair:
"On Facebook we've got something like 640,000 people saying when are you coming back.
"Online it's a whole new ball game."
The website features mostly highlights from the show's fabled television days, but Somers has vowed to consider live shows "if people embrace the website".
