Something fishy is going on in Warwick waterways
FISHERMEN will be kept well and truly busy this summer as 140,000 yellow belly fingerlings find their new homes in Warwick waterways - and quite possibly soon your barbecue.
The record-number drop put 97,089 fingerlings into Leslie Dam, 27,771 into Connolly Dam and 12,440 into the Condamine River.
Fish Stocking Association president Ed Kemp said the whopper release was great news for those hitting the area's waterways this festive season.
"It means for the Fish Stocking Association and for the people of Warwick that instead of paying 22c each for the fish in smaller loads, we're saving 7.5c per fingerling," Mr Kemp said.
"And we've got lots of fish in the water."
The fish travelled three hours from Redgate Fish Farm in Murgon and owner-manager David Rose said they were sure to not disappoint.
"They're brilliant; a good bunch of fish that's for sure," Mr Rose said.
His co-worker, Andrew Shaw from Australian Native Fish, agreed and added they were "the best fish you can get".
Happy fishing, Warwick.
