Sonar used in search of the river

SONAR equipment was used by police to search the Condamine River in the search for Gail Lynch.

The equipment works much like a fish-finder, in that it sends off soundwaves beneath the water which then bounce back to the boat.

Police on board can then interpret the distance and depth of the area and determine if anything is down there.

The sonar equipment was used yesterday and at the weekend while police divers were on standby in case the equipment detected anything which warranted further investigation.

Police on Sunday also looked in roadside drains and culverts within a 15km radius of Warwick as part of the search.
