Sophie a standout with the whistle in open netball in Warwick
COMMENT with Renae O’Dea
THIS week brought a great performance from all players at netball. It might be getting cold but I think it is helping everyone want to play better and warm up faster.
Not only were our players playing well but a particular umpire stood out this week.
Young gun Sophie Waples starting umpiring in senior netball.
Sophie is always umpiring at Saturday junior netball but has proven her skills and gained the privilege to soak up more skills.
She has an outstanding ability to call advantages and allow the game to flow.
By allowing the game to flow players are able to enjoy themselves more and challenge for the ball a lot more. This is a great skill for Sophie to be already showing a good understanding of. Keep up the great work Sophie, you are turning into an excellent umpire.
Life of a defender
DEFENDING in the shooting circle can be very frustrating. The circle is the smallest part on the court yet shooters are able to gain the ball with a little movement.
Jess Thompson is the type of defender that can make it very difficult for shooters to gain position to receive the ball in the circle. Jess is able to jump very high and move quickly.
This is a great asset to have. Jess plays for the Ravens on a Monday night and the open team for inter-district.
She will play for Warwick in the inter-district round at Goondiwindi on Sunday.
