Sophisticated Italian at Quattro

IT'S no secret that Quattro Country Alstonville is one of my favourite restaurants. Like Alphadale 561, or Harvest in Newrybar, Quattro has found the perfect balance of sophistication and comfort (in other words, it's fancy enough to feel special, but not so fancy you feel awkward).

The monthly Quattro Italian degustation evenings have proven a huge hit with locals and those further afield.

So far the evenings have taken customers on gastronomic tours through Piedmonte, Umbria and Le Marche, and this month they will take you to tantalising Tuscany with a mouth-watering menu.

You'll start with panzanella, a Tuscan bread salad with heirloom tomatoes and tomato jelly; then cacciucco alla livornese, a fish soup from Livorno featuring lobster, prawn, mussels, fish and red wine; then venison pappardelle ragu, the braised haunch of local venison and fresh pappardelle pasta; then a Tuscan loin of Bangalow pork with white beans, legumes, porcini and olive oil; finishing up with panforte di siena, a spiced fruit and nut cake with espresso mascarpone mouse.

And you'll learn about the region as you eat. Bellissimo!
