Southern Downs gets all jazzed up

THE much-anticipated second Southern Downs Jazz Society (SDJS) jazz night will be held the first Friday of next month at O’Mahony’s Hotel.

Highly experienced Brisbane jazz drummer John Harrison will perform with the Jazz Aperitif Ensemble on the night and will also hold a jazz drumming workshop the next day.

SDJS president Terry Gilchrist said the workshop was open to anyone who could get their hands on a snare drum and a set of brushes from beginners through to experienced drummers.

“John is one of Brisbane’s top jazz drummers, he is formally from Melbourne and was a teacher with the Billy Hyde Drum Clinic for a number of years, and he has toured and supported many international acts,” Mr Gilchrist said.

The jazz night will be held on Friday, May 7, from 7.30pm with the workshop from 10am to midday on May 8.

If you would like to register for the drumming workshop, phone Mr Gilchrist on 0421 319 124.
