MORE than 70 senior managers and emerging leaders from a range of organisations and businesses across the region turned out to the first Southern Downs Leadership Forums held in Stanthorpe and Warwick this week.

The Southern Downs Leadership Forum is a Council initiative that provides an opportunity for present and emerging leaders to be inspired and gain knowledge from other leaders within the community.

Southern Downs Regional Council's CEO Mr David Keenan said he was pleased with the response to the first forum.

"As a council initiative, we wanted the focus to be on sharing experiences and management practices that relate to creating exceptional workplaces, innovation, ethical decision making and financial sustainability, as well as promoting the competitive advantages of the Southern Downs region, and I think our speakers certainly hit the mark," Mr Keenan said.

Forum attendee and Queensland Police Services' Senior Sergeant, Craig Berry, said the event was worth attending.

"The presentations, while contrasting, all linked well together and I'm taking some great learnings away from each presenter."

"The forum offers a terrific platform to build relationships between leaders in the community, the opportunity for professional development and the establishment of mentoring pathways," Mr Keenan said.
