Southern Downs players in Albury for the nationals in polocrosse

POLOCROSSE: Most of the Queensland players heading to the nationals in polocrosse in Albury are already in the border town.

Almost 20 players from the Southern Downs are in Queensland teams doing battle with the best in Australia for a week from Monday.

Two years ago Queensland made the open men’s final at Darwin before going down to New South Wales.

Warwick player Cameron Shepherd, who is state captain, and in top form after winning three player of the match awards in the Barastoc Interstate Series at Easter at Morgan Park.

While New South Wales is the favourite in the men’s competition, with a team full of internationals, Western Australia is always more than competitive.

Cunningham player Lauren Cant is the Queensland women’s captain and knows it won’t be easy for her against a Western Australian team she was in two years ago.

Cant will be joined in the state women’s team by Cunningham sisters Ella Elks and Ryle Waugh, who have plenty of experience in various Queensland teams.
