Council looks at improving Easey St drainage

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council will call in a land valuer to investigate the cost of resuming land in Easey St, as the council looks to improve the area's stormwater drainage.

This drainage system is the worst in the area, followed by Horsman Rd and Fitzroy St.

Director of engineering services Peter See said Easey St drainage channel would not cope during an extreme flood.

"The recommendation of compulsory acquisition is harsh," he conceded.

"We get regular complaints from the gymnastics club about the effect this drain has on their property."

Councillors also agreed to consider the repair project, which involves replacing the existing culverts and the construction of a drain, in the next budget.

In the next few months, the council will be presented with stormwater mitigation plans for Stanthorpe, Allora and Killarney.
