Southern Downs scenes Wanted on TV
SOME of the Southern Downs' most notable scenery has made its way into lounge rooms across the country on the new television series Wanted.
The second episode of the series, starring Gold Logie winner Rebecca Gibney, aired on Channel Seven on Tuesday night.
In the episode, Gibney's character and her accomplice (Geraldine Hakewill) continued to run from the police but made a pit stop in Killarney.
Killarney's main street and CWA hall (transformed into a police station) made a star appearance.
Scenes included a visit by the pair to the Killarney Hotel, and a motel scene shot at the Granite Court Motel in Stanthorpe.
Granite Court Motel owner Alex Noakes said it was good to see the show come together after watching the filming last year.
"They used my kitchen, my lounge room, the reception and the office," he said.
"I was here all the time during filming, just mingling with everybody and keeping out of their way.
"Rebecca Gibney was a nice lady who worked very hard - they all put in long days."
Fisher Park service station (near Cunningham's Gap), the Head Rd near Killarney and the historic Warwick Railway Station also featured in the episode.
A Fisher Park Truck Stop staff member told the Daily News she was happy to see the truck stop in the show.
"They did a very good job," she said.
"Quite a few of our drivers and family and friends watched it," she said.
The region's tourism body has welcomed the debut of the Wanted series.
Destination Southern Downs marketing co-ordinator Izelle Barnard said it was exciting to recognise the region at the background of the show.
"It certainly has put parts of our region front and centre for many who have never seen it or thought to travel here," she said.
"To hear an acclaimed actor like Rebecca Gibney say she has fallen in love with the region is absolute gold."
More Southern Downs scenes, including King St in Warwick are expected to appear in next week's episode.
Wanted airs on Channel Seven on Tuesday at 9pm.
