Celebrity chef's real Warwick 'paddock to plate' experience
THE Southern Downs is set to shine on television, and Goomburra landscape will be the main star of an upcoming episode for Queensland Weekender.
The segment is still due to be scheduled, but will run sometime in the coming weeks.
Queensland Weekender host Dean Miller and celebrity chef Alastair McLeod scoured the Warwick pig and calf sales yesterday to find the perfect pig to roast for their camping trip in Gordon Country.
Dean said he had the chance to take his family with him, and loved his job of promoting our region.
"The kids are loving it so much they wouldn't get out of the creek this morning," he said.
"They're city kids and are really getting a taste of the country."
Dean said he came to the pig and calf sales many years ago and was impressed by how much it had grown.
"I'm really enjoying everything this week," he said.
"The Goomburra country itself always looks so beautiful."
And celebrity chef Alastair McLeod enjoyed being right at the source of our good country food.
He plans to make a camping feast and in true country style, roast it on a spit.
"You want to know that the food you are using is coming from your own doorstep," he said.
"The less miles it has travelled the better it tastes."
Alastair said people across the region have shown so much hospitality.
"It's such a friendly and very welcoming place," he said.
"There's a real sense of pride, and different generations of people sharing their experiences."
