Speaker from the frontline

CAPTAIN Grant Prendergast has expressed his gratitude to the Warwick RSL Sub-branch for the care packages sent to Afghanistan for our troops.

He was guest speaker at yesterday's sub-branch reunion which attracted 92 people to Kings.

Capt Prendergast has worked in Warwick but is currently based at Gallipoli Barracks at Enoggera in Brisbane after just finishing a nine-month posting in Afghanistan.

"I personally received one of the care packages," he said.

He admitted it was tough going in Afghanistan, especially wearing body armour in 55-degree heat.

"We are making a difference. I was working with a great team," he said.

"It has been announced the Australian commitment will finish at the end of 2014."

Yesterday, he used a Powerpoint presentation to show the Australian involvement in Afghanistan

He said the sub-branch was as relevant now as it ever has been.

"It supports veterans once they leave the military," Capt Prendergast said.

"Since Vietnam, we have been involved in East Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan and on several United Nations missions."
