FROM the Pope to the premier to the Queen, Florence Slattery received well wishes from across the globe for her 100th birthday.

The much-loved Warwick identity celebrated with friends and family in King's Theatre on Saturday.

Mrs Slattery, who turned 100 on Wednesday, was showered in gifts, cards, flowers and, her favourite, hugs.

Among the gifts was a blessing from Pope Francis and a copy of a newspaper printed the day she was born.

A century's worth of photos were played out in a PowerPoint, as a lifetime of memories were shared.

Her oldest daughter Pamela McMurtrie gave a touching speech, describing her mum as an amazing lady and a legend.

"You've been in the paper, you've been in the news, you've been on Facebook and you look great in a red hat," she said.

"You have not only reached that awesome milestone, but look out here and look at what you and dad created.

"We are so proud and we love you so much."

Mrs Slattery's life story was shared by family members, from her love of music, to the day she met her first husband Robbie and the birth of her four daughters and son.

Although there were some low points, losing her husband, son and second husband, family members commented on her ability to keep going when things got tough.

When she got to her feet to thank her family and friends, Mrs Slattery was as humble and humorous as ever.

'This has been a wonderful party," she said.

"The girls have done it all themselves and I do appreciate it so much.

"I'd also like to thank the husbands. I know what they would have had to put up with."

She also thanked her many friends in the community from the Red Hatters to the bridge club.
