Spike in council staff complaints

OUTDOOR council workers are being reported for "doing nothing" and must be reminded they are under constant scrutiny.

Councillor Ross Bartley told Southern Downs Regional Council chief executive officer Rod Ferguson he's received "numerous complaints in a short period of time" about seemingly work-shy workers.

"In one instance, staff arrived at a job and it was one and a half hours before they did anything," Cr Bartley said at yesterday's engineering services committee meeting.

While councillors don't normally get involved with operational workings, Cr Bartley, who is also the engineering services chair, said he had to raise it.

"There may be a breakdown in communication and the external staff are waiting for direction and we need to find out if there's a missing link," he said.

Mr Ferguson said he would need specific details before he could make any comment.
