Spin could be the key in BBL in next decade
HOWZAT COLUMN WITH MICHAEL BOURKE
Spin the key
KEY Brisbane Heat spin bowlers Mitchell Swepson and Yasir Shah have produced accurate and wicket-taking spells in the BBL this season which have helped the Heat side stay in the top four.
It is now the trend to have two spinners in each side like the Renegades with Nabi and Hogg.
These spinners are able to bowl variations which keeps the batsman guessing as to what's coming next.
Great crowds
IT has been fantastic to see the sellout crowds at the Big Bash games and it will be exciting to see what the BBL will do to top it.
What will BBL players need to do in the next 10 years to get a playing contract?
For fast bowlers they could need balls more than 150km/h per hour and have a number of baseball style slower bowlers. All spinners will need to be able to spin the ball both ways as in the future, wides could be free hits on the next ball.
To get a contract, batters may need to be able to strike a ball more than 100m for a six. Maybe T20 cricket will appear as a future Commonwealth games event. Hopefully other Australian territories will get involved and we'll see teams from the ACT and Northern Territory enter the competition.
Horse tip
MY horse tip for this Saturday is for Sunlight at the Gold Coast.
